music // Doe Bay Festival : 2010 : Orcas Island

In a matter of mere hours (depending on ferry traffic) a weary Tacoman can escape the clutches of urban life for the pastoral landscapes and pristine beaches of the San Juan Islands.

There’s no better time to do this than during the weekend of the annual Doe Bay Festival on Orcas Island. Think of it as summer camp for adults. But instead of basket-weaving and trust falls, it’s incredibly direct and intimate live music—be it nationally-renowned acts clustering together on the porch of the general store to belt out impromptu ballads or local musicians swelling with harmonies and harmonicas around a crackling campfire.

There are few quality music festivals where you can share camp sites, let alone slip’n'slides, with your favorite bands—and Doe Bay is easily the best of them.

Here’s a small glimpse of some of the fun from 2010′s festival—keep your eyes out for some of Tacoma’s (and Seattle’s) best local musicians . . .
